Short Sellers Targeting Backblaze

I have absolutely no material interests for or against Blackbaze; I don’t currently use their services; and I’m not endorsing anything in this report (I haven’t even read it all). But I know a lot of duplicacy users use B2, so I thought this was relevant and that some folks here would want to read this for themselves.

Oh wow.

Not that I’m completely surprised:

I’ve never understood the fascination with Backblaze that especially home users on various forums tend to exhibit. Besides alleged financial fraud, their software quality is abhorrent.

Both end user (their backup app) and backend software (they had issues in the last returning bad data to customers fairly recently, I’ll try to find the link).

The overall design they have implemented that was driven by cost cutting How the Amazon S3 API Design Ends Up Costing You Money by avoiding s3 was fragile and led to issues, and then they still had to bolt s3 on top because it’s a defacto standard and if you compete on price only and don’t have anything else to bring on the table — you don’t have a choice but support it. Nobody will be wasting time implementing an API support for the rock bottom storage provider. So their business planning was also of a questionable quality.
