License Transfer to a newly built Server

I recently “rebuilt” an old server…switched from Windows Server 2016 to Ubuntu Server 24.04.4 LTS. Same hardware. Same drives (reformatted from NTFS to ext4). Same server name. And I would like to transfer the existing license to the newly built machine, but I keep getting the following error no matter how many times I change the hostname on the License page.

“Failed to download the license: License error: Activation code has already been assigned to a different host and can’t be activated on xxxxxxxxxxxx. Please log in to your Duplicacy customer page to change the hostname associated with the license.”

What am I doing wrong? many thanks in advance.

Go to your account and change hostname associated with the license, and then activate duplicacy instance again. I assume the activation code will change

I changed the host name four times and reactivated four times. Same error all four times. Do I need to wait a certain period of time after changing the host name before reactivating?

Hmm I’m not sure what’s up, but afaik there shall be no waiting period. I don’t have access to licensing. @gchen?

I waited overnight and tried again this morning. Same result. I tried changing the host name twice. Same result each time.

When it says “can’t be activated on xxxxxxxxxxxx”, then “xxxxxxxxxxxx” is the hostname that Duplicacy sees, so you’ll just need to change the hostname associated with the license to “xxxxxxxxxxxx”.

Thank you. That did the trick. And makes sense. I couldn’t find that process in the documentation anywhere. Thank you for clarifying.
