"needs chunk" message?

I noticed messages like the one below for each revision, in a prune log:

SNAPSHOT_CLEAN Snapshot <snapshot-id> revision <x> needs chunk 1843013...

Check reports that everything is ok.

What exactly does this “needs chunk” mean?

This means the chunk is a metadata chunk needed by the specific revision so a copy of the chunk is stored in the local cache.
