Been running 1.8.0 for a couple of years (installed for all users) and tried to update to 1.8.3. It did not ask for an install location and installed to my user directory. It doesn’t know where the configuration files are and I don’t see how to point it to the correct location. I’d really like to install it (and overwrite 1.8.0) for all users so I can use it as a service. Any pointers on how to do this?
You probably installed it for all users the first time round. Unfortunately, the Duplicacy Web installer doesn’t pick up existing installations, nor deals with upgrades very well.
In future, best practice is to uninstall before installing the new version with the same method.
To resolve, first quit the application if it’s running in your task tray (that’ll be the non-service mode). Then uninstall and run the new installer again by right-click > Run as administrator. At the end, choose run as service.
It’ll put a shortcut on the desktop - delete this - it’s designed to launch the non-service mode. If you install as a service, it’s already running in the background and you won’t get an icon in the task tray. Instead, visit http://127.0.0.1:3875/ in a browser, then save the bookmark to your desktop instead.
