Renewed License incorrect date

I recently decided to start using duplicacy again, after letting my license expire ten months ago. I decided to renew my old license, assuming that the system would do the sane thing and renew from today’s date (this happened on Oct 24). Instead it decided to simply add 1 year from the original expiration date of Dec 3, 2024, and so I discovered after the fact that I had just paid $5 for less than 2 months, rather than for a full year.

For reference, this is the same issue as Renewed license did not extend date ,as a personal user the only way to get support is to make a post on the support forum and hope that an employee sees it and fixes the issue manually.

I think this is by design. Renewing with discount extends the existign license, it does not start a new one.

But lets @gchen comment – it’s up to him how he wants to handle such cases.

I agree this is by design. A friend had to do the same thing last year and he was happy to do so - at least because of the discount which, in all honesty, is quite generous. You’re still getting it cheaper than a brand new licence, if you have to buy a second year for another $5.

Don’t forget, Black Friday is coming again soon and there’ll prolly be a lifetime option (for the meagre price of 10 years (1 new + 9 renews) minus all the years you’ve already paid for).

It’s a good point about the renewal being discounted when compared to puchasing a new license - I think I was unpleasantly surprised at check out because I wasnt expecting this behavior, with the context of renewals being discounted I can understand the logic behind it, although I think that it should be spelled out to the user. For me it ends up still being cheaper than paying for a new license since it expired 10 months ago, but if it had been over a year ago then renewing would actually be more expensive than buying a new license - there should at least be a big warning at checkout for that case.

Right, for personal licenses, our licensing system always renews from the previous expiration date rather than the current date. I can manually adjust the new expiration date, but this would make your license not eligible for the lifetime upgrade during our annual Black Friday sale. Please let me know if you prefer this option.
