Exclude online-only files on Windows for cloud drives like OneDrive and Proton Drive

While backing up my Windows machine using the GUI, I noticed that Duplicacy triggered downloads of some cloud-only files from OneDrive and ProtonDrive.
On ProtonDrive, had marked these files as online-only using the ‘Free up space’ option in Windows Explorer. On OneDrive, I’m using the only-on-demand option.

I need Duplicacy to only back up files that I have downloaded locally. Is there a way to exclude cloud only files from backup? I saw that Duplicati allows this, and since Duplicacy has a way to filter files as well, I think that it should be possible. But I don’t know what pattern I could use. Does anyone know?

Any help is much appreciated.

Not possible. There is a feature request Support for dataless files

I’m not sure how did duplicacy manage to trigger download in the first place, reparse points were never supported. Maybe OneDrive changed underlying tech?

That’s a shame but thank you for your quick reply. I hope the feature request will be picked up.

I’m not familiar with the underlying process, but I think any app on Windows can request access online files. Windows triggers a notification when this happens and you can block specific apps from doing this. Of course, if you do this for Duplicacy, any backup requesting the files will fail.

Now I have to exclude my cloud drives entirely from my Duplicacy backups. I’ll have to reconsider buying the license after my trial ends.
